Mental health recovery allows individuals to go through an active process of change, being in control, strengthening, and empowering themselves to improve their mental health and well-being. The recovery model emphasizes and supports a person's potential for recovery. Recovery sees symptoms as a continuum of the norm rather than an aberration. Mental health recovery is generally seen in this approach as a personal journey rather than a set outcome, and one that may involve developing hope, a secure base and sense of self, supportive relationships, empowerment, social inclusion, coping skills, and meaning.

Treatment approach
The treatment approach is all inclusive of the positive and negative events that have and/or are affecting your mental health stability. There's an active discussion of past and current moods, interpersonal thoughts, behaviors, life stressors, personal and social environments, and family dynamics that have influenced your life. It provides you (the client) with ways to help restructure your thinking and response to stress and other conditions co-existing in your life. This approach allows me (the clinician) to obtain an overall picture of you and all the facets that have created you and your current mental state of being. It allows me to determine if psychotropic medication management is essential to your mental health recovery. This treatment approach is a dynamic process that allows you to explores ideas, destructive patterns, alterations in thinking and behaviors. It promotes self-awareness, leads to empowerment, and requires openness and trust for the development of effective coping and life skills for mental health recovery.

Testimonials

Dr. Boyd has been a refreshing source of comfort to me. I never had a doctor who actually explained the medications to me, why I’m taking them, the side effects, and benefits. She gave me that tough love I needed to change my thinking about my mental health, the stigma I was intruding upon myself, and accept it. This was the start to my mental recovery. I am eternally grateful.

Dr. Boyd has been a life saver for me. With all I have endured, she has been a beacon of light. I don’t know what I would have done without her.

The support Dr. B has given me has been unbelievable. She makes you believe in yourself and your abilities throughout your mental recovery. Being an addict was hard, being able to accept and recognize it as a mental health disorder was even harder. Instead of judging me and making me feel ashamed, she provided me with the resources and tools I needed. Thanks, Dr. B.
