Psychosocial supportive therapy

Often called talk therapy, psychosocial psychotherapy is when a person, family, couple, or group discuss with a mental health professional both positive and negative events that have and/or are affecting their mental health stability.  Psychosocial supportive therapy helps people learn about their moods, thoughts, behaviors, and how they influence their lives.  It also provides ways to help people restructure their thinking and respond to stress and other conditions co-existing in their lives.  Psychosocial supportive therapy is a dynamic process that explores ideas, destructive patterns, alterations in thinking and behaviors, promotes self-awareness, leads to empowerment, and requires openness and trust for the development of effective coping and life skills for mental health recovery.
